How I built a website with AI in one evening: a case study with numbers

The website you’re reading this article on didn’t exist yesterday. I built it in one evening together with Claude, the AI assistant from Anthropic. No developer, no website builder with a monthly subscription, and not a single line of code written by hand.

Here’s how it went, how much it cost and where I got stuck, so you can do the same.

Case study numbers: time, costs and result

What I wanted

The task was simple and typical for any expert:

  • a personal website with my services: mentoring, team training and marketing audits;
  • light and modern, so it looks good on a phone;
  • a blog that brings people in from search;
  • Ukrainian first, with the option to add Russian, English, Polish and Spanish later;
  • minimal costs and the ability to change everything without a developer.

How the work was split

What I did: signed up for accounts, clicked buttons where it had to be the owner, made decisions (structure, services, style), sent photos and screenshots.

What Claude did: wrote all the code, page copy and articles, generated covers and infographics, checked how the site looked on desktop and mobile, and published the changes itself.

Essentially, I worked as a client with a very fast contractor: I set the task, looked at the result and gave feedback.

Timeline of the evening

First 45 minutes — the site is online. Accounts on GitHub and Cloudflare, a code repository, connecting GitHub to Claude. Then Claude put together the first version of the site, and after setting up publishing on Cloudflare it went live.

The next hour — a full website. A separate page for each service, a menu with a submenu, a mobile menu, About and Contact pages, a Telegram button, my photos, places for videos.

The last half hour — the blog. Six articles tied to my services, automatic branded covers for every article, infographics, links between articles and service pages, and extended FAQs.

Where I got stuck

Honestly, there were a few moments where I’d have been lost without a hint.

1. Claude couldn’t see my repository. The GitHub connector was connected, but there was no access. The reason: the wrong GitHub account was logged in in the browser, and the app was installed in the wrong place. The fix: check which account you’re logged in as, reconnect and open a new chat.

2. I was installing the wrong thing. Searching for the Claude app on GitHub, I ended up in a marketplace with dozens of third-party tools with “Claude” in their name. I only needed the official app — a direct link solved the problem.

3. Cloudflare suggested a different publishing option. Instead of the expected Pages, the interface offered Workers. I sent a screenshot, and within a minute Claude added the right settings file to the project.

The main lesson: when something goes wrong, you don’t have to figure it out yourself. Take a screenshot and show it to the AI — in most cases the solution comes right away.

How much it cost

  • Hosting: $0 — Cloudflare and GitHub on free plans.
  • A .com domain: about $10 a year (for now the site runs on a free technical address).
  • Claude: my regular subscription.

For comparison: website builders usually charge every month, and having a freelancer or studio build a personal website with a blog costs from several hundred dollars and takes a few weeks.

What this means for marketers

The most interesting part isn’t even the website. It’s that a marketer who knows how to brief an AI can now do on their own what used to require a developer, a designer and a copywriter. A website, a promo landing page, a blog, infographics, social media content — these are now a matter of hours, not weeks.

But there’s a flip side: AI works fast, not necessarily correctly. Copy written in your name, prices, terms, promises to clients — all of this has to be checked by a person who understands marketing. That’s why the ability to set a task and evaluate the result is becoming a key skill.

Want to do the same? I’ve put the whole path into a free step-by-step guide with ready-made prompts: “A website with AI in one evening” (the PDF is in Ukrainian for now).

If you want to learn to use AI in marketing systematically, come to mentoring. And for teams I run corporate training, where AI tools can be included in the programme.
